The First of Its Kind

Chapter content

This is where a new kind of story begins - the first collective blend cask, created from standout whiskies of the Flaviar Whiskey Advent Calendar. Instead of a single distillery or a single mash bill, Cask #006 brings together seven distinct expressions, carefully selected and composed into one unified whiskey.

Chosen by our Master Distiller and returned to American oak, this blend is now beginning a new life as a single spirit - shaped by balance, intention, and collective ownership. It’s a milestone for our community and the moment the Advent Calendar becomes a living whiskey project.

Built from bourbon, rye, wheat, and American whiskey, and anchored by a bourbon-forward core, this cask is already showing early harmony and depth. This isn’t just another barrel - it’s a new kind of legacy, blended into existence and aged one cask at a time.

What is
New make
Unaged bourbon - straight from the still and not yet touched by oak. It’s clear, high-proof, and bursting with warm corn sweetness and raw grain power.
What is
Fresh fill
Newly distilled bourbon poured into a new charred oak barrel to begin aging. Bright, high-proof, and brimming with the promise of vanilla, caramel, and time.
What is
Mash bill
The grain recipe used to make Bourbon. By law, it must be at least 51% corn - the source of its signature sweetness - balanced by rye or wheat for spice and malted barley for depth.
What is
Mash bill balance
The mash bill defines Bourbon’s character — more rye brings bold spice, more wheat adds softness and warmth. It’s the precise balance of grains that gives each Bourbon its soul.
What is
Barrel entry proof
The spirit’s strength when it hits the cask. Higher proof pulls more from the oak, lower proof brings a gentler touch. It shapes everything that follows.
Now
It’s time to taste!
You’ve met us, learned where your bourbon comes from, and picked up the basics. Now comes the best part - your first try.

Limited Advent Calendar 2025 Blend

Distillers feedback:

You're meeting this whiskey at the point where composition becomes integration. Five carefully selected expressions, now aging together as a single spirit. The early structure is forming - sweetness, spice, and oak beginning to move into harmony.

This is the foundation stage. The blend is finding its balance, and its long-term character is being set. From here, time and oak will refine the edges and deepen the unity of the spirit.

From still to glass, this is your first true taste of what Rye really is.
Border

Distillers feedback:

You're tasting this Bourbon at a moment where its personality is coming into clear focus. The grain sweetness is still leading, but it's now being joined by gentle warmth, soft fruit, and the first layers of oak influence. Whether you picked up honeyed cereal, toasted sugar, bright fruit, or subtle spice, you're sensing the structure that will carry this cask forward.

This is the spirit finding its balance - no longer raw, not yet fully shaped. The foundation is strong, expressive, and already showing harmony. From here, time and oak will do their quiet work, deepening sweetness, rounding the edges, and layering in polish as this Bourbon moves into its final stretch.

How your cask is developing

THE BLEND LOCKS IN
THE BLEND LOCKS IN

Inside the cask, five components are beginning to move as one, with distinct layers slowly finding cohesion as sweetness starts to lift, spice settles into place, and the foundation of the blend becomes more defined with each passing moment.

READING THE BLEND
READING THE BLEND

From the distillers’ perspective, this stage reveals the true direction of the blend, as each component integrates into a shared profile and begins to build a whiskey that feels cohesive, intentional, and increasingly aligned.

OAK IN CONTROL
OAK IN CONTROL

As the whiskey rests, oak takes on a central role in shaping its structure, rounding the profile, connecting the components, and bringing a sense of balance that allows the blend to evolve as a single, unified spirit.

CHARACTER TAKES SHAPE
CHARACTER TAKES SHAPE

The whiskey is now defining its identity, with the blend aligning into a clear and confident profile that will continue to gain depth, polish, and precision as it matures further in the cask.

Early distiller impressions

At this stage, we’re paying close attention to how each component behaves inside the blend over time. It’s not just about integration, but about which notes are stepping forward and which are choosing to stay in the background as the profile settles.

We’re also watching how the texture develops. Early signs of structure are there, but the real question is how the mouthfeel evolves as the components continue to align and the oak influence becomes more pronounced.

Nothing is being rushed here. This is the phase where patience gives us the clearest signals, allowing the blend to reveal its strengths naturally before any further decisions are made.

What is
Blend integration
When multiple whiskeys come together, they don’t instantly become one. Integration is the phase where individual components start to align, smoothing out transitions and building a profile that feels cohesive rather than layered.
What is
Marrying period
After blending, the whiskey rests. This time in the cask allows the components to settle, interact, and reshape each other. It’s where sharp edges soften and the blend starts to behave as a single spirit.
What is
Balance in a blend
Balance isn’t about equal parts. It’s about control. Sweetness, spice, oak, and texture each take their place, creating a profile where nothing dominates, but everything contributes.
What is
Structure
Structure is how a whiskey holds together on the palate. It’s built from oak influence, tannins, and alcohol, giving the blend shape, weight, and a sense of direction from first sip to finish.
What is
Early character
This is the moment where direction becomes visible. The blend hasn’t reached its final form yet, but its identity is starting to emerge, showing where it’s headed long before it gets there.
The patience of
Letting it settle
Blends don’t rush. Even when everything is in place, time is what brings harmony. This stage is about letting the whiskey find its rhythm before any final decisions are made.
SEE WHY THE LITTLE THINGS MATTER

Where the blend starts to show

Chapter content

Blending is only the beginning. What follows is where the real work happens. As the whiskey rests, the components begin to settle into each other, smoothing transitions and building a profile that feels whole. Subtle shifts start to appear. A rounder texture, a more defined sweetness, a spice that sits exactly where it should.

In whiskey, these small adjustments aren’t background noise, they’re the signals that everything is moving in the right direction.

Compared to other blends at this stage, yours is already showing a higher level of balance and control, with a profile that’s settling into itself with confidence and clarity.

What stuck with you in this chapter?

You’ve just gone behind the scenes of how your blend starts to come together. Which part of this chapter stood out the most?

Keeper’s feedback:

This is the stage where everything starts to click. The blend is settling, aligning, and finding its rhythm in the cask. Changes are subtle, but each one moves the whiskey toward a more precise and intentional profile.

We’re right where we want to be, letting it come together on its own terms before the next step reveals what it’s capable of.

Proof in progress

Chapter content

Your Rye has aged beautifully. Now it’s time to talk strength. This is where we start thinking about how much power the final pour will pack.

Right now, your spirit is still at cask strength - untouched, uncut, and bold. From here, it’s up to your distillers to decide how (and if) they’ll proof it down.

What’s happening inside the barrel? The alcohol is slowly shifting, evaporating slightly, mingling deeper with the oak, and becoming more refined. You’re no longer just aging, you’re preparing for the finish line.

Even small shifts in humidity, can lower the spirit’s strength. That’s why the environment matters more than ever.

News from your distillers

People always ask why we don’t just bottle everything at cask strength. The truth? Not every whiskey benefits from staying that bold. At full proof, some notes can overpower others. Too much heat, not enough nuance. That’s where proofing comes in. A few drops of water can open up the spirit, mellow the sharp edges, and let hidden flavors shine through. It’s not about watering it down, it’s about letting the whiskey breathe and find balance.

smartass title
What is
Proof?
A measure of alcohol strength. In the U.S., proof is twice the ABV (alcohol by volume). So 120 proof = 60% ABV.
What is
Proofing?
The process of adding water to lower alcohol content. It softens the burn and can open up flavors.
What is
The sweet spot?
The ideal strength where flavor, mouthfeel, and aroma come into perfect balance. Not too hot, not too soft - just right.
What is
Cask strength?
Whiskey straight from the barrel - no water added. Pure, high-proof, and full of character.
Why not
Always bottle at cask strengths?
Not every spirit shines at full power. Proofing helps control balance, mouthfeel, and drinkability.
What
Cask strength really means
It’s not just about high ABV. It’s how bold your whiskey feels, how intense the flavor hits, and how much of the barrel shows through.
WHAT ABOUT MY RYE

What cask strength really means to your Rye

Chapter content

You’ve tasted your Rye in its rawest form, as New Make. What comes next is a whole new beast: straight from the barrel, uncut, and matured. This is cask strength.

Every cask strength pour is different. The barrel, the climate, and the grain all play a role. That’s why this stage is key: we’re watching, measuring, and preparing to decide how strong your Rye should stay.

What’s your style?

When it comes to whiskey strength, what do you usually go for?

Keeper’s feedback:

No wrong answers here. Some folks want full fire, others want finesse. That’s why we’re taking our time to get the strength just right.

You’ll get the chance to taste how we did in the next chapter, when you receive new samples straight from the cask.
