A real estate Rye Whiskey with bold power and plums on the middle palate.
The Willett Family has a long Whiskey-making history stretching back into the 1700s. The family has worked for others and operated their own distillery off-and-on for well over two-hundred years. Prior to 2012 they were hand-selecting casks from the Kentucky Bourbon Distillers inventory for their releases. Since then, Willett Whiskeys are made from new-make spirit coming from their newly renovated distillery — opened in 2012 — and appropriately called the Willet Distilling Company. They deliver no fewer than a dozen varieties.
The name is long enough to tell you just about everything you need to know about this Whiskey — Willett Family Estate 4 Year Old Small Batch Rye. Obviously, it’s a four-year-old Rye Whiskey and bottled at a nearly cask strength. And “small batch” only begins to tell the tale. But the main thing to remember is that it means that the flavor profile and proof-strength vary from batch to batch. Go with the Willet and be inspired. Every single time and with every single sip you take!
What does Willett Family Estate 4 Year Old Small Batch Straight Rye Whiskey taste like?
The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Willett Family Estate 4 Year Old Small Batch Straight Rye Whiskey and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.
We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.
Unripe stone fruit aroma. Simple syrup and pickle brine. Surprising warmth on the finish.
Sharp and Spicy with a hint of vanilla and oats. Think a morning oatmeal and add cinnamon and nutmeg. Grassy hay with a long and mellow finish. Overly ripened raspberries with licorice and a mild creaminess on the finish.
Nice lower end Willet bottle.. can't go wrong
Delicious smooth rye, one of my favorites.
Spicy and vanilla, a bit too much of a bite in my view, but thoroughly drinkable. Would imagine this would be fantastic in an old fashion
Fantastic! Smooth, warm finish.
This is a must buy if you enjoy a nice old fashioned. I prefer a bourbon old fashioned but this is a real treat.
Dang. I got this as a gift so I can't take price into account, but wow is this good. It's thick, viscous, spicy and vanilla all at the same time. I can't find a fault, except that it is probably out of my price range if I had to buy.
The best rye I've tasted. Great level of spice and not too hot that it needs water added to it.
Amazing!! Delicious!! Enough said.
Willett is what made me a rye lover. It's amazing straight up or on rocks. I just wish it were easier to find in Colorado.
Bold rye spice and loads of cinnamon. Great bottle for the price, but very difficult to find in my home state.
Perfect rye for me. Big, bold, but not overwhelming. So well balanced. Great flavor with the rye, spice and oak on the front with some (but not too much) sweetness. So nice to sip and at a great price point. Smooth.
Super delicious. Huge burst of flavor up front and smooth at the end
I almost ignored Willet for the very underwhelming pot still bourbon. Not thinking I liked rye (though i love hot and spicy foods, yes I am dumb:) I grabbed one on a whim for the fact that I don't see them that often. Enjoyed some one night, woke up the next day and got a case of it. Im not gonna say its amazing or this or that. But I know that I really enjoy this stuff. Rye that has a spicy sweet almost bubblegum taste to it at cask strength for 50-60 bucks? Sign me up
This is a very balanced whiskey, very refined for a 4 year offering but doesn't let you forget it's a rye. There's much less ethanol burn than you might expect from 110 proof. This is in the league of more expensive whiskeys - somewhat complex and definitely well rounded. A sipper to be savored, for rye fans and American whiskey lovers as well. Cheers!
An outstanding rye, I used it in Old Fashion and it was delightful. 2 friends said it was the best Old Fashion they’ve had!
This is a great Rye. At first sip it's spicy with clove and baking spices. As I drink more, it tastes like an old fashioned without the extra ingredients. It's very orangy, sweet with spices in the background. It's also very smooth of course. If you like old fashioneds then this is for you! Just please don't make an old fashioned out if it ;)
Does not taste like a 110 proof whiskey. Cannot recommend enough.
Some of the finest rye on the market, the batches and barrels are always different but always fantastic
Extremely well balanced. Spicy and sweet rye. Beautifully complex with an oaky tinge. Highly recommend
Very good smooth rye complex best comparison be is a perfect complex Chardonnay from chateau montelena where as knob Creek cask strength is like a hard hitting Cabernet Sauvignon.
Great balance of flavors and makes the perfect sipper!
Sweet and smooth on the palate. Spice is just perfect for a rye. Finishes strong with spice. High quality.
Really enjoyed the tasteful notes in this one.
Surprisingly smooth for a four year whiskey. Not too spicy for a rye Which makes it excellent Willet does it again
Such a great Rye! Just opened a new bottle of 55% and it is so clean and smooth. Very good spice nose and a little bit of dill which I think is enjoyable.
Quality rye. The nose, palate, and finish are dominated by mint. I think it dampens the spice from the rye just a bit too much for my taste, but hard to go wrong with any Willett product.
The people rating this either don't know what good whiskey is or they got the MGP sourced version. My bottle is the newer in-house product of Willett and tastes very young and is not good at all. Very disappointed.
T his is a wonderful rye that asserts itself well in a Manhattan and is just delightful straight up.
Thought so much of this I just bought two more bottles. One must be prepared for the zombie apocalypse and no better way than to have enough alcohol on hand!
Willett never fails. This rye is still fairly easy to find and has some great oakeeness to the taste.
Outstanding example of what rye should be. Aromatic with heavy spice balanced nicely by oak and dried fruit. Relatively mellow lingering finish at high proof
Excellent. Much better at $60 when purchased from Flaviar a few weeks ago, but you can't go wrong with this one.
Very good rye. Has a taste of dried fruit on the front and finishes with a taste of cinnamon and rye spice.
This is excellent. Agree with much of flavor spiral, and ABV great so it is not too much of a burn to begin and yet many great flavors come through. This is a great rye compared to Peerless which has won several awards over the last year or two and about 1/2 the price. Don't miss out on this one!
Yum. This is a rye forward rye. it won't be mistaken for a bourbon. And I dig it. Spice. Anise. Pepper. Clove. I am a bourbon lover, but I would like to have this on hand always when I wish for something very different.
Full carmel and vanilla to start, long cinnamon finish.
My absolute favorite rye.
Hands down one of the best Ryes out there, especially if you can locate it for list price. Disregard the heat association with typical high proof whiskies, it is one of the smoothest available. The oaky, sweet, toasted cinnamon is dominant but doesn’t overshadow the Rye presence. A+ for Willett!
This is a fantastic rye. This bottle has a complex and really bold flavor backed up by hard hitting 113 proof. If you like a heavy rye-spice flavor, you’ll love this bottle.
I visited Willett this spring, and it was excellent. I therefore had hopes for this rye, and they were exceeded. I tasted it with my all-time favorite rye, WhistlePig single barrel, and while it wasn’t a match for that, it didn’t suffer much in the comparison. Really, really good rye.
This rye surprised me, the initial taste is spicy but the finish is smooth. Has become one of my favorites.
Subtle spice sneaks up on you for a nice smoother finish.
Really like this rye. Great neat, add an orange peel and really opens up.
Family Estate 4 Year Old Small Batch Straight Rye Whiskey... you had me at "Hello"
Spicy deliciousness. 114 proof heaven.
I LOVE IT, SO MUCH BETTER SOMEHOW THAN THE 3YR, WHICH IS ALSO GREAT. I'M A BIG FAN OF WILLET RYES.
One of my favorite ry whiskeys. crazy to think this has been aged only 4 years. Super smooth and drinks more like a 10 year old.
Amazing Rye. Great flavor and very smooth.
Great when you want something strong that tastes strong, but good.
It’s like a classic rye dialed up to 11. The nose and first taste are exactly as you’d expect (sweet caramel, baking spices) but after a few seconds the peppery flavors pop. I love a strong whiskey but this is almost too much. If pop rocks were made into a rye, this would be the bottle. It’s a challenging drink, if you’re into that.
Nose is floral and spicy, with a bold taste of toffee and nice toasted oak. The oak lingers nicely on the finish. I can't believe this is 126 proof.
If you like other Ryes you'll like this better. Complex, ridiculously smooth for its proof, and from everything I've read a huge improvement over the younger 3 year expression. Order a dozen!
Hands down the best rye I've had. Tasted this blind, against others, on multiple occasions and it always comes out on top. Depends on the batch you get, but at 110 proof + it drinks like a 90. The Spice is there but not over powering, nice long finish, rich and complex!
Fantastic. Bigger than Whistlepig taste, body, aroma profile and finish...almost 1/2 the price
The rye of my dreams. Spicy, rich, long finish.
One of my favorites, 126 proof that goes down smoother than most 80 proofs that I have. the flavor is exceptional.
