When we tasted barrel No. 988, we instantly thought of YOU.

In the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains sits a fertile valley fed by a continuous flow of melted snow-water filtering through the bedrock. The Frey family has been farming this land since 1953. Fifth-generation farmer Colby Frey saw grain and pure water and decided that Whiskey was a good bet. He started experimenting with distilled Spirits in 2006. Nevada relaxed regulations in 2010 opening the door to commercial distillation — Frey Ranch Whiskey Farm opened in 2014, boasting a beautiful Vendome still. It’s a true estate operation with everything done on site from field to bottle.

This Frey Ranch Barrel Strength Single Barrel was selected especially for you, dear Flaviar Member. It was crafted exclusively from grains that were both grown and malted at the Frey Ranch. The unique mash bill consists of four grains: non-GMO corn, winter cereal rye, winter wheat, and 2-row barley. Aged for more than 5 years, we thought you’d appreciate barrel No. 988 with all the rich, sweet, and pleasant flavors of almond, candied citrus, sweet tea, and honey just as much as we did.

Absolutely beautiful, drinkable, well rounded barrel proof. This drinks more complex than most barrel proofs which can be topically more sweet with notes of Carmel, hazelnut, butterscotch, and mild spices. This has more natural tastes of almonds, candied, hint of Carmel and a very nice floral finish. Highly recommend this as a unique and delicious experience.

One of the sweeter bourbons I've tried, with strong, but not overwhelming, caramel and honey flavors and, dare I say, a hint of cotton candy. For me, the finish isn't as smooth as advertised, with the charred oak flavor and burn lingering a bit too long in the back of my throat. Its nose and palate are quite pleasant, so the strong finish is kind of jarring. But still a great bourbon that I definitely recommend for your shelf.

Sweet but well balanced by the alcohol. Taste is bread with some honey and a hint of anise. Finish is long with some spice. Overall, a great bourbon.
