Leading Astraea Gin is Danielle Leavell, MSc, a Master Distiller from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland. She expertly combines traditional brewing and distilling techniques with her expertise as an herbalist to strike the perfect balance in every bottle.
Her passion for using premium, organic, and wild-harvested ingredients means Astraea gins are bursting with flavor, purity, and authenticity.
Now, let the gins introduce themselves:
Reflecting the PNW’s bright, crisp winter air, Mist Gin is the Classic London Dry. Exceptionally well-balanced, it carries a light touch of juniper, offering a salty nose and sweet orange notes throughout, finishing with a velvety mouthfeel.
A contemporary UK-style London Dry Gin, Meadow Gin is a celebration of sunny days spent amidst PNW mountain flowers. With bright citrus notes, floral aromas of lemon verbena and chamomile, and a slightly sweet honeysuckle finish, it is a gateway for those new to gin.
Embodying the clarity of the Pacific Ocean, Ocean Gin features a clean brininess on the nose, which translates into a full mouthfeel with a warm, lingering finish of juniper, cassia, and salt. Distilled with local seaweed, it imparts a crisp, high salinity, complemented by a long finish of salt and brine.
Bold and fragrant, Forest Gin takes you on a journey through the coniferous forests of the PNW. Distilled with local balsam fir and spruce, its verdant, lush profile with sweet notes of balsam fir, fresh spruce, and grapefruit makes it a favorite among chefs and high-end cocktail bars.
Astraeus Single Malt Gin Desert, the newest addition to the range, is a truly unique desert-inspired blend of whiskey and gin. Infused with desert botanicals in a thrice-distilled American Single Malt, this rare spirit is crafted to shine in cocktails, offering a versatile experience that's simply enchanting.
Join us in celebrating the botanical artistry and precision of Astraea Gin, where each sip captures the essence of purity and the vibrant landscapes of the Pacific Northwest.
SMARTASS CORNER
1. London Dry Gin is known for its juniper-forward flavor profile, complemented by botanicals like citrus peels and coriander. It’s crafted without added sweeteners post-distillation, maintaining a crisp, dry finish that gin enthusiasts love.
2. London Dry Gin is not always from London. Gin does not have the same geographical restrictions as spirits such as Cognac, Scotch, or tequila. Only a tiny handful of London Dry Gins are actually made in the city.
3. Astraea Gins are gluten-free, vegan, and organic, embodying the brand's commitment to sustainability and quality, with every ingredient chosen for its premium, natural purity.
4. Can gin really be gluten-free? Yes! Pure distilled gin is generally gluten-free, even if made from grains like wheat or barley. The distillation process removes the gluten protein in the drink to make it gluten-free.
5. Astraea Gin’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its use of locally sourced, organic wheat from Oregon as its base, ensuring a high-quality and eco-friendly foundation for every gin.
6. Astraea’s botanicals are sourced from organic and wild-harvested plants in the Pacific Northwest, including juniper berries from Italy, Oregon, and Macedonia, ensuring a rich, authentic flavor.
7. Astraea Gin uses lemon and orange peel to impart both bitter and sweet notes of bright citrus, coriander seeds for spicy, grassy undertones, cassia for soft, warm notes, angelica for sweet, floral notes with a touch of earthiness, and orris root to harmonize all the botanicals, creating a smooth, well-balanced finish.
8. Astraea Gins are distilled in a 500-gallon Vendome Copper Pot Still, following the London Dry style. This involves macerating the gins for 18-36 hours and completing a single-pass distillation over 14-16 hours, ensuring a pure, smooth flavor profile.
