The Best Things to Do in London on World Gin Day

The Best Things to Do in London on World Gin Day

Now in its tenth year, World Gin Day is a celebration of all things Gin, and a chance (or an excuse, really) to get people all around the world enjoying Gin together.

World Gin Day always takes place on the second Saturday in June, which means the date changes a little. This year it takes place on 9th June, and there are events taking place all over the world.

If, like this writer, you’re London-based, then have we got the events round up for you! For everyone else, check out the official World Gin Day website to find out what’s happening near you, and be sure to join in the chat with #WorldGinDay.

World Gin Day London Festival:

The biggest, and arguably longest celebration of a day is running for four days from 7 - 10 June in more than 75 bars across London. From the same people that run London Cocktail Week, DrinkUp.London, World Gin Day London promises to be the ultimate celebration of everyone’s favourite spirit.

A £10 digital pass (which lives on your smartphone) gets you £6 Gin cocktails for the duration of the four day event, as well as access to the best pop-ups and events (everything from make your own Gin workshops to Gin-branded tuk tuks to take you from bar to bar) across the city. You’d be mad to miss it.

G&T Pop-up at The Hoxton, Shoreditch:

Four Gin brands are clubbing together to create the ultimate four day pop-up Gin bar in the courtyard of The Hoxton. Silent Pool, Colonel Fox, Gin Mare and Ki No Bi Gins will each occupy a corner of the courtyard, offering up their signature serves. The best bit? It’s free to enter. G&T pop-up runs from 6 - 9 June.

Martinis and Oysters at 68 & Boston, Soho:

The wonderful chaps at Fords Gin know that there are fewer things in life better than an ice cold Martini and the freshest oysters. That’s why, on the evening of 7 June, they’ll be offering a menu of three different Fords Gin Martinis at just £5 each, and they’ll be giving away 300 oysters for free! Just get there early, because once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Junipalooza:

The annual Junipalooza Gin festival is back! Taking place at Tobacco Dock over the 9 and 10 June, you’ll be able to meet over 60 makers, who’ll be serving over 200 Gins between them! Each Gin is free to sample (take your pick between neat or with a dash of tonic) but pick carefully - you won’t be able to try them all in a four hour window, no matter how hard you try.

Around the World in Gin Dinner:

All that Gin means you’re probably going to want to eat dinner, right? But why not combine great Gin cocktails with a slap up meal? The Fat Bear restaurant in the City is hosting a dinner with a twist; each course is accompanied by a Gin cocktail from around the globe, featuring the likes of King of Soho, Scapegrace and No. 209 Gin.

What’s more, at the end of the evening, you’ll get the opportunity to try the new No. 2019 Barrel Reserve range. It’s a once in a lifetime event on the evening of 8 June. Booking essential!

Plymouth Gin Botanical Lab:

Learn how to make Gin from the UK’s oldest working Gin distillery. Plymouth Gin is setting up a Botanical Lab at a couple of London locations, with sessions running on the 7 and 9 June, so there are plenty of chances to get involved. If you’ve always fancied making your own Gin, then this one is definitely for you!

Learn How to Cold Compound with Bathtub Gin:

Taking place on 10 June, the day after World Gin Day, this is a session for those who just can’t get enough of the Ginny goodness. Taking place at legendary East London cocktail bar, Nightjar, you’ll learn the history and techniques behind Ableforth’s Bathtub Gin, before being guided through making your very own Gin using the same cold compound (or infusion) method. Your ticket includes a welcome cocktail, plus your own mini bottle of Gin to take home.

The city has a jam-packed few days coming up, and if, after all of that, you don’t need a little lie down and a rest, you can keep the celebrations going by perusing the Flaviar Gin range right here.
