Your significant other has good taste; they’re a Gin-lover (of course) and you want to make them happy, maybe even spoil them a bit this Valentine’s Day. But you’re done with the cliches. Chocolates? Won’t cut it. Red roses? Too unimaginative.
Well don’t worry; we’ve searched high and low to bring you the best ways to treat your loved one this Valentine’s Day. From gestures to gifts, experiences to must-haves, we’ve got you covered.
1. Limited Edition Gin
Get ‘em while they’re… pink. Sure, your loved one might profess his/her love for all Gins, but for the real wow-factor, get them something exclusive, something new, and something that won’t be around forever; a limited edition bottling.
Pinkster Gin bottle, which reads ‘Let the love beGin’, contains the original recipe Gin, which is distilled with fresh raspberries for a delicate fruity flavour and pink tint.
2. Gin Experiences
Give the Gin-lover in your life some love with an experience they’ll never forget. Last month, we told you about the opening of a Gin Spa in Glasgow; the world’s first botanically inspired day spa, no less. As well as using essential oils inspired by Gin botanicals, customers can enjoy a free G&T with every treatment.
Or, if being massaged by a stranger isn’t their thing (even if it does involve Gin), why not try something a little safer; a Gin distillery tour. Most distilleries around offer some sort of experience these days. From a tour and a tasting right through to learning how to make your own Gin, there really is something for - and local to - everyone.
3. The Personal Touch
Make them something they wouldn’t be able to buy anywhere else, and even better, make it with their favourite Gin.
For all those heart-stopping moments when you *think* you’ve run out of Gin, stash away an emergency G&T kit, which when produced will undoubtedly put you in the good books of your other half.
To make a good one you’ll need (yep, you guessed it) Gin and tonic. We’d recommend a couple of miniatures, a decent tonic or two, as well as a sealed container with some of your favourite botanicals (think juniper berries, dried citrus peel, even dried hibiscus flowers).
Package the whole thing up, add a personalised name tag, and you’re good to go. For good cooks and foodies everywhere, why not rustle up a Gin-themed dinner (see some ideas for cooking with Gin), accompanied by the perfect Valentine’s Gin cocktails.
Here are our favourite romantic cocktails (we’ll leave the cooking to you):
4. Gin membership
Give the gift that keeps on giving! Show them you care in the best way possible: with delicious booze!
By giving a Flaviar Membership, the Gin lover will expand their horizons through tasting and discovery of different Gins (and other Spirits) through deliveries of tasting boxes and full-size bottles, access to members-only tasting events, and unlimited free shipping.
Your loved one will get to enjoy a distillery tour from the comfort of their home and connect with other aficionados.
Your gift also comes with a vibrant community, superb knowledge base, generous referral perks, and personal recommendations. We're not sure how you'll outdo yourself next time though.
Valentine's Day Gin Cocktails Ideas
#1 Hendrick’s Rose Garden
- Muddle 5 thin slices of cucumber in a cocktail shaker.
- Add 50ml Hendricks Gin,
- 15ml rose syrup and
- 25ml lemon juice.
Shake vigorously, then pour into a glass filled with crushed ice and top with soda water.
#2 Hanky Panky
This cheekily named classic cocktail was devised by Ada Coleman in the early 1900s, the first (and to date, only) female Head Bartender at The Savoy in London. The original recipe is vastly improved (we would argue) by the addition of the orange juice, which balances out the bitterness of the Fernet Branca.
- Stir 50ml Barr Hill Gin
- 50ml Sweet Vermouth,
- a dash of Fernet Branca and
- two dashes of freshly squeezed orange juice with ice.
Strain into a chilled glass.
#3 French 75
We couldn’t possibly give you a list of romantic cocktails and not mention Champagne. The French aphrodisiac adds a little luxury to your Gin, and with a spiral of lemon peel, goes pretty easy on the eye, too.
- Add 50ml Barr Hill Gin
- 20ml lemon juice,
- 5ml sugar syrup to a shaker filled with ice.
Shake and strain into a flute. Top with Champagne and garnish with a thin coil of lemon peel (wind it tightly around a pencil to get the shape).
Let us know how you’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day this year. Personally, I’ll be hanging out with my one true love; Gin.
