Looks like Whiskey, tastes like Gin.

Things we know about Gin to be true: it tastes like juniper, it goes great with tonic, and it’s crystal clear. Well, not anymore! Russell Henry Dark Gin has a lovely yellow hue that’s distinctly reminiscent of Whiskey, but we promise you, it’s a Gin. Their London Dry recipe, in fact, which has then aged in oak barrels for a year.

Russell Henry Dark Gin is the brainchild of those crazy cats at Craft Distillers, and Crispin Cain, Master Distiller at Tamar Distilleries. Rumour has it, the Russell Henry range is named after Russell Henry Chittenden, an American chemist who conducted pioneering research into digestion and nutrition.

The type of oak barrels used remain a mystery, but one thing’s certain, the flavor, color and scent of the Gin are all affected by the aging process. The London Dry is well-balanced and light, with strong pine notes and delicate flavors. But after a year in the barrels, the Dark Gin is much more exotic. It’s perfumed on the nose, with sweet, peppery and wood flavors. It’s a complex drink, and one well worth seeking out.
