Ever heard the saying 'old is gold'? Well, Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky embodies that. With over two centuries of history, it has seen more than your high school textbook. Started in 1812 by Harrison Blanton, it was sold and renamed the Old Fire Copper (O.F.C.) Distillery in 1870. After changing ownership, it found a home with Sazerac in 1992. Since then, this New Orleans-based company has made it their flagship distillery, crafting a lineup of whiskies and spirits that impress whiskey connoisseurs.
Sazerac Rye, the prodigal son, created the Sazerac empire. Originally used in a Cognac cocktail, it became the life of the party when they switched to their own house whiskey. Despite its popularity, it's surprisingly affordable. Jim Murray from The Whiskey Bible raved about its "crispness," giving it a whopping 94.5 rating. Wine Enthusiast loved it, awarding 95 points and a "Best Buy" rating. It even won Gold medals in LA and San Francisco. The aroma is a mix of clove, vanilla, anise, pepper, and subtle notes of candied spices and citrus. And the finish? Smooth with hints of licorice. And now, this classic is available as a limited edition single barrel select. With only 192 bottles available, each one comes with a ribbon perfect for gifting.
