A superbly-aged example of Laphroaig at its silky-smoky best.

Laphroaig distillery was founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston and is located in Port Ellen on Islay. For a long while there’s been frenzy for Laphroaig’s Scotch. Rumor has it that Prince Charles of Wales himself is a big fan of the brand.

But no matter what, Laphroaig is the Islay Single Malt by which all others are judged. They are the standard-bearers for the hearty, smoky style that Islay is famous for. Their core lineup has no fewer than a dozen Single Malt drams plus a host of special releases and travel retail specialty editions.

Laphroaig 25 Year Old is the story of a signature Islay Spirit spending a long time — a VERY long time — in seasoned oak casks. That means a Single Malt aged for a full quarter century in second-fill Oloroso Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks.

Not only is this a testament to the amazing strength and quality of oak, but to the patience to wait that long before cracking it open. And they want you to taste every drop of character, so it’s bottled at an impressive 51.4% ABV without chill-filtering or any other shenanigans. Come and get it!

The aroma is deep and wonderfully complex with vanilla, raisins, and dried apricots on one hand and smoked pepper bacon and toasted biscuits on the other.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The contrast on the palate is fascinating between a silky, creamy mouth-feel and a light fruitiness against the savory notes of sea salt, iodine, and campfire.

Finish
