Kings County Peated Bourbon

And now for something completely different — Peated Bourbon. 

The good folks at Kings County Distillery were named Distillery of the Year by the American Distilling Institute. Founded in 2010, they were New York’s first distillery since Prohibition. Some shops talk about "passion," "innovation," and "craft" processes, but these guys live and breath it. Everything about them screams quality and simplicity. And all of their products are packaged in medicinal-style flasks with typewriter-written labels. Because, after all… you are buying their Bourbons, Whiskies, and Moonshine for the flavor, not the fancy packaging.

King's County Peated Bourbon is just what it sounds like and we’ll bet you’ve never had anything like it before. It is definitely a Bourbon from the get-go. But the barley in the mash comes from Scotland and has been malted and dried over peat smoke — just like they used to do in the old days on Islay. The results leave us at a loss for words, but in a good way. It tastes like a smoky Single Malt, but also like a young Bourbon. Heck, we get to sample hundreds of new Spirits each year and this is the first time we’ve ever seen anything like it.
