The unusual choice of barrels to age this Añejo paid off.

Many things have changed since tavern owner Lázaro Gallardo began crafting Tequila in 1857 at Hacienda Los Camichines in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Not everything has, though – the Selleción Suave process he invented remains the same. What that might be, you wonder? Well, in Spanish, suave means smooth and Gallardo was the first Tequila Master Distiller to begin adding the richer, older and smoother Tequila reserves to the blend to produce one that would be smoother than them all.

The business is still family-owned today with several generations passing the know-how down to the next one – what an incredible gene pool, right! Even the bottle you’ll get today, inspired by the Art Deco style, was designed by Lázaro‘s son Luciano back in 1920.

Añejo Tequilas must be aged for at least 1 year in any kind of wood barrels, but ex-Bourbon are the most common. Gran Centenario Añejo Tequila is aged in new American oak barrels, which is an unusual choice in Tequila world that results in an unparallelly smooth Tequila. This choice is also responsible for the toasted oak, chocolate and nutty aromas as well as the soft, balanced and complex profile. Bottled at 80 proof, the Gran Centenario folk recommend you enjoy it in a Golden Angel (Inspired by the one featured on the bottle, probably.) You’ll need pressed ginger, fresh lemon and lime juice as well as agave nectar.

You know, for a Tequilla, it's not that bad. Not nearly as harsh as other tequillas I've had. I got this bottle because it was recommended by a coworker.

While I am not a fan of Anejo in general, this is mild and very tasty.
