A refined, savory curation of peated Single Malts from the masters at Compass Box.
Compass Box isn’t a distillery or a distributor. Compass Box is a story. It’s a story that began in the year 2000 when John Glaser — a marketing director for Johnnie Walker decided to break out on his own. He was an American working for one of the most iconic brands in the world of Scotch Whisky and — like a typical American — thinks he can do it better on his own. It takes a lot of Whisky stones to step out of a dream job with Whisky perks and start a business like this. John buys bulk output from some of the best distilleries in Scotland and then creates custom blends which he finishes and ages to create unique Whisky expressions.
A few years ago Compass Box created their “No Name” limited release — and quickly sold out. So they did it again. We love it when we get a lot of nerdy detail about a Spirits, so let’s get to it. Like the previous release, Compass Box No Name No.2 is a curated tribute to peated Whisky. It’s a combination of three famous Single Malts — 75.5% Caol Isla aged in refill Sherry butts, 10.5% Talisker aged in ex-Bourbon hogsheads, 13.5% Clynelish also aged in ex-Bourbon hogsheads, and .5% Highland malt blend aged in darkly toasted French oak. And this little smoky gem is bottled at a tasty 48.9% ABV which will stand up to whatever you want to throw at it. You should also remember that — just like all Compass Box Spirits — there’s no chill filtration or artificial additives to worry about.
