Complex and delicious Indian Whiskey – an instant classic.

Back in 1992, the son of a liquor baron, Paul P. John, established his first distillery in Bangalore and in a few years launched the Original Choice brand. Now, Paul John Distillers has twelve distilleries, with a distillery solely for single malt in Goa. Master Distiller Michael D’Souza carefully picks the indigenous local ingredients, while the tropical climate makes sure every batch is matured perfectly. Hot temperatures speed up the maturation process, which means John’s Whisky can be matured for five years and be equivalent to a 15-year-old Scotch.

The Paul John series was launched in 2012 in London and it’s distilled in traditional copper pot stills before it spends its sweet time in charred American Oak casks. Classic Select Cask is one of ten variants of Paul John Single Malt Whisky. This Indian Whisky is perfect both for those who want to go beyond Scotch and those who already know and adore the style. Being NAS allows this Spirit to be experimental and bold. Smoothness and balance will remind experienced palates of Highlanders that spent a few years in ex-Bourbon casks. In short: complex, unusual, rounded and incredibly delicious.

Richard
Richard,
One of the most unique and vibrant whiskeys I've ever tasted. While it burns hot, it is simply bursting with a variety of bold and intriguing flavor.

Robin
Robin,
Tastes familiar like a scotch. Sweet start, smooth finish with a tiny bit of burn at the end

Antti
Antti,
It is a very good, bold, unpeated, cask strength Indian Single Malt Whisky that has a rich birth with notes of honey, stewed apple, pear, vanilla, freshly-baked sponge cake, golden barley & a hint of salinity; while a bold & complex life adds notes of tropical fruits, banana, passion fruit, cinnamon, black pepper & dark chocolate; that leads to a spicy death of medium length with notes of oak, chili & cracked black pepper.

Jeff
Jeff,
Strange motor oil nose. And then bananas. High burn on first sip, then lots of sweetness, but high and lingering pepper taste. Not pleasant overall

Matthew
Matthew,
Color is a lighter amber. Nose is malt and honey, though not overly sweet. First sip is strong, but not in a bad way; bold but mildly sweet honey, malt, brighter flavors of fruit, and a creeping spice that lingers for quite some time. Further sips confirm the bold flavor profile, as well as amplifying the spicy finish, though don't necessarily reveal new flavors. Nice oily mouthfeel, though a little drying from the proof. Only downside is the lack of distinguishable flavors. Overall, a solid if not overly distinct offering.

Matthew
Matthew,
spicy with a vanilla finish

Liz
Liz,
I liked the finish but did not get a lot of the tasting spiral notes to come through.

Stephen
Stephen,
Flavor is almost closer to a rum, or a mixed drink. But that’s a good thing. Distinct fruitiness without being sweet. Very nice.

Todd
Todd,
I enjoyed this. Good combination of spicy and sweet. A little vanilla as well.

Marguerite
Marguerite,
Good whisky, oaky

John
John,
Sits high in my pallet and is floral and broad then goes spicy. Wanted it to go somewhere else I think.

Angela
Angela,
So so. Not worth seeking out

Stefanie
Stefanie,
This was so bland and flat. I'd use it to bake with or mix drinks maybe.

Zachary
Zachary,
Nice and smooth

Brendan
Brendan,
Banana nut bread and vanilla on the nose. Same on the taste, but also with some underlying woodiness, likely the oak from the flavor profile. Surprisingly smooth for 55% abv. More sweetness when tasted over ice.

Matthew
Matthew,
Way too spicey. Great nose but even when watered down the pepper kills all the other flavor.
