Mezcal

Where there’s smoke, there’s definitely Mezcal. This centuries-old Mexican Spirit is made from agave plants that’ve been cooked in smoky fire pits anywhere between three days to two weeks.

It tastes like a campfire in your glass—one that begs a few s’mores and another round, for good measure. Mezcal’s quickly captured the attention of Spirits aficionados, and we can’t exactly blame ‘em.

Try before you buy. Discover Mezcal flavors with these Mezcal Tasting Boxes. Turn yourself into a confident sipper, get exclusive tips of the trade, connect with a like-minded community and explore the contents of your Tasting Box with Flaviar-Exclusive guided tasting called Unboxing Flavors.

What's the Difference between Tequila and Mezcal?
All Tequila is Mezcal, not all Mezcal is Tequila. Tequila must be made using only Agave Tequilana/ Blue Agave, Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from many different varieties of agave. Both must be produced in specific states as well.
How does Mezcal taste?
One of the key flavor and aroma profiles in Mezcal is smoke.
Does Mezcal have a worm?
Sometimes it can. The reasons for the worm vary widely with some claiming it’s there simply as a marketing tool while others claim it can impart flavor to the Mezcal.

Mezcal
While Mezcal is produced all across Mexico, most of the Mezcal we see is produced in the state of Oaxaca. Interestingly, over 70% of Mezcal is made from the Espadín agave—even though more than 20 types of agave are used to make Mezcal.
Mezcal
Espadín. That word means “sword” in Spanish because the leaves look like a mass of swords projecting out of the plant. Espadín Mezcals are most common because it has been the easiest agave to cultivate.

All Tequila is Mezcal, but not all Mezcal is Tequila.
