The original brand was formulated in 1857 by John Phillip (J.P.) Wiser. Wiser’s Canadian Whisky came to industry giant Pernod Ricard, during their acquisition of some of Corby Distillery holdings a few years ago.
The Spirit is currently produced at the Hiram Walker Distillery in Windsor, Ontario. The core product during the Corby years was “Wiser’s Deluxe Canadian Whisky.”
But there Pernod Ricard as recently decided to reinvigorate the brand, and have put their money behind the project — rebranding the line as “J. P. Wiser’s Rye.” They have held on to some of the main styling cues, but created new labels and bottles and even a new, modern website.
Master Blender Don Livermore has been assigned the task, and significant improvements are being seen with a new version on the way. The hard work seems to be paying off a “Best Canadian Whisky - Double Gold” award.
