All about Glenfiddich distillery

Glenfiddich is located at the very heart of Speyside, with Balvenie and new born Kininvie, in the glen of River Fiddich.

Glenfiddich was founded in 1886, by William Grant, after he quit Mortlach. In the beginning stages he actually purchased the old still from Cardow (Cardhu of today), and started production.

In 1898 Pattison -- the biggest client of Glenfiddich to buy malts for their blends -- went bankrupt, and Glenfiddich decided to create its own blend, the Standfast. In the early 1900s, William Grant formalized the name of the company, to William Grant & Sons.

During prohibition, Glenfiddich stood strong, remaining one of the few Scotch distillers that kept on producing. William's grandson Grant Gordon, surprisingly increased the production. 1963 was a benchmark in single malt history, thanks to Glenfiddich.

Glenfiddich revised the bottle shape to a triangle, which was designed by Hans Schleger and named its Whisky 'single malt Whisky,' which was a massive success. Glenfiddich was doing good.

The Solera innovation in 1998, was another benchmark in the Whisky history. As of today Glenfiddich remains one of the highest selling Whisky brands, being the most awarded Whisky in the world.

Glenfiddich produces an unbelievable amount of 10 million liters per year, using the water from the famous Robbie Dubh. Three giant mash tuns, and 24 Douglas washbacks are present at the site, with 32 stills in total.

The stills vary in capacity and shape, and they are fueled by gas, making production unique. The maltings are sourced from Balvenie and industrial maltings. Another extremely important fact about Glenfiddich, is their onsite cooperage. Glenfiddich has its own coopers and masters, to create the most effective aging for its Whisky.
