Originally a sugar plantation, the distillery sits on a 43 acre estate that grows its own sugarcane to extract first-pressed aromatic and flavorful sugarcane juice to distill pure Rhum from. This has become quite the focal point in the Rhum Agricole world with over 160,000 visitors making a pilgrimage there each year.

Clement Rhum is an award-winning Rhum Agricole that has spent four years maturing in virgin French Oak and in Bourbon barrels. Described as elegant, gentle and sophisticated, this VSOP Rhum is more like a single malt Whisky in composition than an aged Rum.

This is an excellent example of Rhum agricole, made from sugar cane juice rather than cooked molasses. The "grassy" sugar cane flavor dominates, yet it's not overpowering, even neat. As a previous reviewer stated, don't expect the same flavor as mass-produced molasses rums, or the heavy, sweet flavored rums. To me this is the definition of what a rhum (rum) in a Daiquiri should be: dry, smooth,and refined but still flavorful.
