Two Whiskey-lovers and expert tutelage from a living icon make a great 100% rye.
The story of Woodinville Whiskey Co. starts in 2010 with two best friends — founders Orlin Sorensen and Brett Carlile. They set out to create a great craft Whiskey, and these two gentlemen started things off right by enlisting the help of industry icon David Pickerell — the former master distiller at Maker’s Mark. So although their business is young, they’ve already won both Craft Whiskey of the Year and Craft Rye Whiskey of the Year for two years running from the American Distilling Institute.
All the grain used in Woodinville Spirits comes from a local, Omlin Family farm in nearby Quincy, Washington. In the case of their Woodinville Straight Rye, that means 100% rye grain. The wood for the barrels is “air seasoned” by being left in the weather for eighteen months prior to being made into barrels. The resulting Spirit is bottled at a near perfect 45% ABV. And it’s all that attention to detail that makes Woodinville Straight Rye a real treat.

What does Woodinville Straight Rye Whiskey taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Woodinville Straight Rye Whiskey and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Deep Bronze
Nose / Aroma / Smell
The nose reveals a wonderful balance of dried fruit and baking spices along with complex wood notes.
Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate is relatively mild for a 100% rye, but there is still plenty of cinnamon, clove, pepper, toffee, book-leather, and fresh-cut oak.
The finish is medium length with more spice and a thick texture.
Ratings & Reviews
Rich and spicy. Missing some balance but overall enjoyable.
Really enjoyed this bottle. I usually enjoy milder bottles such as Burnside Rye or Basil Hayden and this was right up the same alley. Smooth and warm/sweet is the best I can describe it. Easy drinking especially after the ice cuts it a bit. Definitely worth a try!
A great mixture of spicy and sweet.
