Westland

United States Founded in 2010
Westland is one of the leaders in American Single Malt Whiskey production – a category that is rocketing in popularity.

Single Malt Whiskeys are made from 100% malted barley which is the most complex and flavorful grain.

For centuries single malts have been considered the domain of Scotland, but in the last decade American Single Malts have been on the rise.

This new category offers the chance to make a mark in the world of Whiskeys and Westland sure has left some. Westland was awarded the title "2015 Craft Whiskey of the Year" at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and named the "2015 Whiskey of the Year" by the American Distilling Institute.

In the heart of the Pacific Northwest, world-class natural ingredients inspire Westland to pursue their own unique American-style Single Malt. With each expression they work to create something that both honors the traditions and adds something new and distinctly American.

The foundation of Westland’s house style are roasted malts which highlight malt flavor - they use them in all three of their core Whiskeys: American Oak, Sherry Wood and Peated.

The character of their Malt provides a wealth of flavor profiles, but every Westland Whiskey is underlined by their house style – a sweetness and ease on the palate accompanied by a fruity and complex but ultimately grain-focused finish worthy of its place in this new world.
Who owns Westland Whiskey? The French spirits company Remy Cointreau owns Seattle's Westland distillery. Sitting in the heart of Seattle, Westland distillery is a 13,000 sq ft. working facility in the industrial district. All Spirits are milled, mashed, fermented and distilled onsite. Beginning in 2010, Westland Distillery championed the American Single Malt Whiskey movement.

Westland Distillery
Westland fills casks made from Garry Oak - the native oak species that only grows in the Pacific Northeast. It is extremely rare as the oak now grows only in five percent of its former habitat, therefore Westland is actively engaged in restoration projects.

Westland video
A transcript for non-audio situations Our forebears saw the West ahead of them. Raw, waiting to be shaped. A place where one could build an idea to match the scale of the surroundings. They were compelled to see the wall of the world as a door to opportunity.

Its immense rawness, a deafening call to work within it. They laid tracks, crossed ranges, launched ships, rounded capes and built cities. Grounded in elemental truths and an ethos of work. Their efforts stand today as monuments to the integrity of their principles.

Now we must carry forward these ideals and interpret them for our own audacious endeavor. It was Providence that led us to make single malt Whiskey here.

To the north and east our rolling plains laid with black fertile soil make the perfect bed for growing barley. Our water fresh and plentiful comes as an offering in the snow-capped ridges that surround us. The coastal air heavy and wise envelops our casks just as it does in a glance of the old world.

Everything about this place was made ready for this. We had only to hear its call and have the courage to accept its challenge.

Our West is Whiskey - not the untamed frontier of yesteryear, but its challenges are real, its landscape still undeveloped. We are compelled to leverage the nature of ourselves with the unique qualities of the nature that surrounds us. To pioneer a new industry for our specific time and place. And so we head out with ambition and resolve to build our future and to shape our West. We are Westland
