Here’s a fancy phrase for you: omne trium perfectum. It means everything that comes in threes is perfect. That’s why they only made three parts of Back to the Future. Son of a Peat, a Members' exclusive private label inspired by the Flaviar community is back for the third time. It's unique in its own ways but unmistakably SOP.
BATCH 03 The Redeemer is a wonderfully dark and powerful addition that turns the series into a trilogy. The twelve-Whisky blend combines the magic of Islay, Speyside, theIslands, and the Highlands in one diabolical Spirit.
Like its predecessors, Son of a Peat III was bottled at the peak of its power - at cask strength, clocking at a vigorous 53.8% ABV. It's as authentic as they come: no added color and non-chill filtered. Hand-blended, hand-bottled, hand-sealed, and hand-labeled.
Everyone’s been saying these are unprecedented times. Well, then it’s time for an unprecedented Whisky. Where there’s fire, there's smoke, so join the shadowy side of Scotch. Submerge yourself in the Son of a Peat’s dark brooding soul and experience his brilliance and passionate insanity. He will be with you in spirit every time you pop the cork and smell the smoke.
What does Son of a Peat Batch 03 The Redeemer taste like?
The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Son of a Peat Batch 03 The Redeemer and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.
We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

What does redemption taste like? Like smoke, of course. Your nose shall be captivated by uncompromising notes of peat, teamed up with earthy hints of smoked meats and a slightly medicinal undercurrent. On your palate, a fierce battle for dominance between warm notes of smoke, oak, nuts, and Sherry, will take place. Peat will prevail, naturally. All will be washed away by an endless finish with notes of chocolate, and a wee bitterish whisper that’ll take you back where everything started: the isle of Islay.
did not disappoint. felt like someone knew what they were doing when they came up with this.
Jacob,
Honestly really dang good. I did not know what to expect but it is fun. not like overpoweringly smoky in my opinion. A nice sweet finish. I am not an expert on tasting notes but I enjoyed the experience of drinking this whiskey. Great blended scotch I got in late on this but now want to try the previous iterations.
James,
Fantastic! Now I need to go grab a Laphroaig and a Bowmore and do some comparison tasting - love the smoke, with the sharp finish.
David,
Two roads diverged in the wood, and I took the one that led to the peat! I LOVE smoky peaty Scotch. My normal home-base is Ardbeg 10. That said, this bottle of Son of a Peat gave notice that there are other options with a good amount of peat, with a fair amount of smoke, but I would admittedly prefer more smoke to smack me in the face the way I like it .. ROUGH! The sherry, earthy and nut is evident in the aftertaste, which leaves a mouth feel with a bit of a shock, though on the lighter side. I am not giving up on my Ardbeg, but am happy that Son of a Peat will be my neighbor .. won't you be my neighbor too ?
Richard,
Great mix of interesting flavors. I don’t get Sherry (like the flavor wheel says) but I get most of the other flavors on the wheel. Nice change of pace from someone who loves peat. The cask strength is a bonus to make the flavors more intense.
benjamin,
Very reminiscent of Laphroaig, a little lighter color and less leather than the 10. As a peat lover, I’m enjoying it!
John,
Excellent Scotch Whisky, with a Smokey, Sweet flavor that is addicting. It's not as heavy on the smoke as some of my favorite Scotches; but, it is very, very smooth. Wonderful straight or on the rocks, no need to add water, it's excellent as it is. Anyone complaining about the smokey taste didn't understand "Son of a Peat". They call me Peat Monster in my Scotch Whisky Tasting Club, so...
David,
This is very good. Not as refined as a good single malt like the Aberfeldy I tried a few months ago, but still very good. Be careful, however. The high proof really sneaks up on you. I had two and I was ready to cry uncle.
Michael,
I love anything peat and this being non-chill and natural color really makes it that much better. It really is a blend of all the peated expression from islay, the islands, and peat from the mainlands. So glad I bought 4 bottles to make up for missing out on the first 2 batches.
Rob,
If this were wine it would be an overly oaked California Chardonnay. Way too heavy on the smoke for my taste.
Lynette,
I don’t like it at all. Smells like burnt rubber and tastes sorta like it smells.. I have loved ever other bottle I have received
Nate,
Freaking awesome! At one point in my life I was on a search for the Peatiest scotch I could find. Once I found it, I realized it was far too strong and realized I did not enjoy that level of peat. Son of a Peat has the perfect amount of peat! Very smooth. A definite repeat buy!
Brandon,
Exactly as described - smoky and smooth with a delightful heat from the high ABV.
Brian,
Love at first taste! I’ve fallen back in love with smoke!
Hardwin,
Remarkably smooth and the high ABV does not harm the finish. Definite chocolate, minimal burn considering the ABV. This is not Laphroig, the peat is there but subdued. Hard to believe that Flaviar came up with this as a blend, well done!
Jeremy,
Absolutely delicious. Goes down smooth.
Kenneth,
Nose: Peat, hay, wet wood, smoke
Palate: More peat and smoke, some sweet liquorice, tar
Finish: Warm lasting, slight burn, some chocolate and sherry
Garrett,
For how much peat this scotch delivers, it is incredibly smooth! The chocolate finish really really rounds this spirit out so so nicely, and the smoke just stays with you, like you were sitting around a warm hearth. This is an instant favorite.
Jason,
Great smoke with a hint of iodine and balanced by a long chocolatey finish.
Joshua,
Fantastic! Wonder peat bomb wrapped in delicious leather!
Steven,
Super peaty, smooth and oh so drinkable!
Bob,
Wow! If you like peaty, smoky, Islay Scotches (as I do) you will really enjoy this! Very reminiscent of a Caol Ila (one of my favorites) but, as a blend, it has a character all its own. A really, really, nice Scotch. Well done, Flaviar!
Paul,
Fantastic and appropriately named. The peat hits you but doesn’t overwhelm you. Absolutely delicious.
