Bold and spicy, yet smooth and pleasantly sweet. This Rye is proof that this Rebel can do more than Wheated Bourbon!
Once upon a time, the famous Rebel Bourbon was sold under theΒ Rebel YellΒ brand. The original Rebel Bourbon was made by theΒ W. L. Weller & Sons CompanyΒ and it was actually William Larue Weller himself who pioneered replacing rye with wheat in Bourbon. And though the distillery popped into existence inΒ 1849, it wasnβt until the mid-1900s that they started bottling American Whiskeys under the Rebel Yell brand. The formula and branding were actually created by a character namedΒ Charles R. FarnsleyΒ β who served as both Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky, and as a Congressmanβ¦ politicians and alcohol, right? Today, the brand name is different, but theΒ golden formulaΒ is still very much the same.
Now, for some rock star-infused story time:Β Billy IdolΒ was doing shots with theΒ Rolling StonesΒ at a party.Β Keith RichardsΒ just loved him some hard liquor and he was fond of Rebel Yell β heβs the one who brought the bottle. Billy liked the name and asked the gents if he could borrow it for a song title β you know, the one where he's asking forΒ more, more, more.Β If you are a music fan like we are, thatβs reason enough to buy it right there.
It's not all Wheated Bourbon, though. Rebel Straight Rye Whiskey brings the bold spice notes one would expect, but it's all super well-balanced with sweetness and vanilla. The Rye is bottled at a healthy 90 proof and has garnered several awards for its pleasant balance, including a Double Gold at the SF World Spirits Competition. See β it doesn't need to be wheated to be a great Rebel!Β
