Trinidad Rum with a double dose of premium aging — first in the Caribbean, then in France.

Plantation Rum is owned by French Cognac producer Maison Ferrand, who control no less than a dozen major brands of premium Spirits and Liqueurs. Ferrand is all about quality — and you can taste it. Plantation Rum is their top shelf Rum label. And mighty good stuff it is, too. They offer a variety of Rums from the Caribbean. Depending on the specific actual plantation and the country of origin, the Rums can vary between soft and aromatic to light and elegant — each one showing the experienced influence of Maison Ferrand.

Trinidad is a great Rum-making island and we have another fine example of it from Plantation’s Vintage series. Like its sister vintages, Plantation Trinidad Vintage 2003 Rum was fermented from molasses for four days and distilled at Trinidad Distillers in a four-column still. It was aged in the tropics in Bourbon casks, then moved to Château de Bonbonnet in France to finish in Ferrand Cognac casks and bottled at 42% ABV.

Smartass Corner:
The original name for the island of Trinidad in the native Arawak language was "lēre" — roughly meaning "place of hummingbirds."

Appearance / Color
Medium Amber

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The nose opens with honeyed pineapple with mixed exotic spices and a dash of wood.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate is nicely textures and the pineapple has now been grilled and there are notes of summer grass, clove, and toasted oak.

Finish
The finish is long with a nice sweet spice.
