A long-overlooked Peruvian Rum triple-aged under the expert hands of Ferrand.
Plantation Rum is owned by French Cognac producer Maison Ferrand, who controls no less than a dozen major brands of premium Spirits and Liqueurs. Ferrand is all about quality — and you can taste it. Plantation Rum is their top-shelf Rum label. And mighty good stuff it is, too. They offer a variety of Rums from the Caribbean. Depending on the specific actual plantation and the country of origin, the Rums can vary between soft and aromatic to light and elegant — each one showing the experienced influence of Maison Ferrand.
When most people think of Peru they think of Inca mountain top fortresses like Machu Picchu and colorfully carved balsa-wood parrots. But the Peruvian culture is far more interesting and complex. And they have a long history of Rum-making as well. Plantation Peru 2010 Single Cask 2019 was distilled from molasses in the Destilerías Unidas S.A. de Peru twice — once in a column still and then in a pot-still. It was aged in Peru for seven years in Bourbon casks, the one year in Ferrand Cognac casks, and finally for one year in Pineau des Charentes casks. The Spirit is bottled at 43.6% ABV.
Smartass Corner:
Pineau des Charentes is a Wine from Western France that is fortified with Cognac and then aged. It is more commonly sipped as an Aperitif.
