It’s fresh, it’s French, it’s frisky!

Henri-Louis Pernod’s first rise to fame happened in 1805 when he opened up a distillery in Eastern France. The distillery was called Pernod Flis, and it was a real smash hit with the public. They were a fan-favorite Absinthe supplier to both - the quite willing French citizens and the French army doctors, who prescribed it as a prophylactic against fevers, malaria, and all sorts of other maladies. Can’t say we blame them. Life was good, the business was booming, and then came the big 1915 Absinthe ban. But Pernod was a smart guy and he found a way around the ban by creating… well, Pernod. With the omission of the shady wormwood component in the process, he managed to create the first French anise-flavored Liqueur, quickly regaining his briefly lost popularity.

Made with star anise, fennel, herbs, and 14 other botanicals, this Spirit offers a strong black licorice flavor with hints of coriander and mint, making it so supremely refreshing. Lady Penelope religiously ordered it every time she went to Paris, and it is at its core, a classically Parisian drink. And if you, by any chance, do find yourself on that wind-in-your-hair French getaway, just be sure to drop that D. De rien.
