Penderyn Single Malt reaches new heights with double-wood aging that delivers a surprising vanilla and exotic fruit palate.
Fine Single Malt Whisky had been produced in Wales for centuries, but inexplicably ceased in 1894. The Welsh Whisky Company was founded in 2004 to put an end to this Welsh Whisky drought and bring the magic Spirit back to the land of King Arthur. But they decided to do things a bit differently. Dr. David Faraday — grandson of the famous physicist — designed a special pot still that would yield a more pure distillate at a higher ABV. And this single, one-of-a-kind still has a full capacity of only one cask of Spirit per day. Today, these fine blokes produce what they call "the smoothest Whisky on Earth," including their award-winning range of finished-wood Whiskies, Gin, Vodka, and a Merlyn Welsh Cream Liqueur that will tickle your wizard’s hat.
Penderyn Rich Oak is the latest addition to the Penderyn’s core range, and a mighty good one. Previously, the distillery had enjoyed a great success with two limited editions — The Rich Oak Single Cask and Rich Oak 50% ABV. So they have made this winning combination available everyday. The Spirit is Penderyn’s Welsh Single Malt aged first in ex-Bourbon casks, then finished in reconditioned Wine casks delivering a fruit forward profile with a heavy dose of vanilla at 46% ABV. And we have to say that the modern Penderyn decanter is just lovely.
