A rare single barrel Rye Whiskey from James E. Pepper bottled hot with a bright, fresh, and herbal palate.
We imagine Whiskey-makers to have names like "Angus McSolid" and look like "The Most Interesting Man in the World." The founder of Georgetown Trading Co. — Amir Peay — looks like a Bond villain from the Sean Connery era. That means we have a craft-distilling company making a range of full-flavored, high-quality Spirits owned by someone who just might be an agent of SECTRE. Their range of quality brands includes John H. Sullivan Irish Whiskies, the historic James E. Pepper 1776 Bourbons and Ryes, Pow Wow Botanical Rye, and 1776 Napa Valley Wines.
Old Pepper Single Barrel Rye Whiskey is THE Rye Whiskey that won "Best Rye" at the World of Wine & Spirits event in 2018. It is a true single barrel bottled at a cask strength averaging 55% ABV (each cask is a tad different). The mash bill is about as high-rye as you can get with 95% rye and 5% malted barley. This MGP Spirit has been aged two to three years and is finished and bottled at the James E. Pepper Distillery — "Old No. 5" — in Lexington, Kentucky. The next edition of Old Pepper Rye will be vatted, so this may be your only chance to get your hands on a single barrel version for quite some time to come.
Smartass Corner:
Amir Peay’s dream came to fruition in 2018 with the opening of a new James E. Pepper Distillery in Lexington, Kentucky — in one of the same buildings as the original distiller that closed in the 1960s. It’s the first time that a historic Bourbon distillery has reopened at its original address.
