It’s a pure example of Campbelltown single malt craftsmanship in a bottle.

Distilling in the Kintyre Peninsula dates back more than 400 years to 1609. The hamlet of Campbelltown was founded in 1832 and quickly became known as “The Whisky Capital of the World.” The era of Prohibition and the subsequent emergence of Highland single malt dominance ended the reign of Campbelltown. Glen Scotia is a more recent branding by the Loch Lomond Group in an effort to recreate the magic of Campbelltown’s bygone era, and they are doing a darned good job of it too.

Glen Scotia 15 Year Old was only released as an official product last year, but it has already pulled down three gold medals — including a Double-Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The accolades are well-earned, with no marketing spin. This fifteen year old beauty is simple, straight-forward craftsmanship. They take the best pulls of their Campbelltown single malt and let it rest in premium, first-fill, ex-Bourbon casks until its quinceañera and then bottle it at a perfect 46% ABV. If you are a Whisky fan, you don’t need to hear any more than that.

Smartass corner:
When it comes to the major spirits competitions, the top entry in each category is awards a Gold medal by a majority vote of the judges. If all the judges are in perfect agreement and choose the winner by unanimous decree, then the winner receives a Double-Gold.
