Smartass Corner:
1) In 2021, our huge community submitted over 110k bottle ratings and over 43k bottle reviews. And that’s how you know what you’re getting yourself into when you shop at Flaviar.
2) If all the tasting vials we have shipped so far were placed in a line, they’d cover the distance between London and Paris. Now, that’s what we call a “well-traveled palate”.
3) The idea for Kyrö Distillery Company came about when a bunch of friends were hanging in the sauna and sipping on Rye ― which is undoubtedly how many great stories start in Finland.
4) In ancient Aztec society, only priests were allowed to drink alcohol during rituals to establish a communication channel with Gods, symbolized as 400 rabbits. Apparently, these rabbits were the children of the Goddes of Alcohol Mayahuel, and the God of Medicine, Petecatl, symbolizing 400 different ways you could get intoxicated from alcohol.
5) While Mezcal is produced all across Mexico, most of the Mezcal we see is produced in the state of Oaxaca. Interestingly, over 70% of Mezcal is made from Espadín Agave—even though more than 20 types of Agave are used to make Mezcal.
6) Sure, Kentucky gets all the press when it comes to Bourbon. And with good reason—nearly 95% of it is produced there. But Bourbon can be made anywhere as long as it’s within the United States.
7) Hercules Mulligan Eyr & Rye is named after the unsung hero of the American Revolution, the spy haberdasher who immigrated from Ireland, immensely helped the cause, and saved G. Washington’s life twice!
8) There are six different Wine-growing areas (crus) authorized to produce Cognac - in descending order of prestige: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, Fins Bois, Bons Bois, and Bois Ordinaires.
