A true estate Bourbon made with four grains and a profound love of the land.

In the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains sits a fertile valley fed by a continuous flow of melted snow-water filtering through the bedrock. The Frey family has been farming this land since 1953. Fifth-generation farmer Colby Frey saw grain and pure water and decided that Whiskey was a good bet. He started experimenting with distilled Spirits in 2006. Nevada relaxed regulations in 2010 opening the door to commercial distillation — Frey Ranch Whiskey Farm opened in 2014, boasting a beautiful Vendome still.

Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon Whiskey just won a 2020 Whiskies of the World Gold Medal. It is a true estate operation with everything done on site from field to bottle. This a four-grain Bourbon and they raise their own — non-GMO corn, winter rye, winter wheat, and two-row barley. It’s continuously distilled in a 3-tower Vendome set-up and aged for four years in new oak. There is zero chill-filtration and cut to proof with the amazing snow-melt water to serve at 45% ABV for your pleasure.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Four-grain Bourbons tend to have a complex nose, so expect to find a wide range of fruits with mountain cherries, sourdough bread, vanilla, oak, and turbinado.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate opens with a solid, velvety mouth-feel with a drying sensation over notes of tostones, cranberries, grain spices, baked granola, and vanilla.

Finish
The finish is long, warm, and a bit dry on the back palate.

Enjoyed Quite a Bit!

I'm nowhere near qualified to take stabs at flavor profiles or what woods, fruits or spices I taste, I just know what I do or don't like. I found Frey Ranch to be moderately bold, but not "hot" thanks to it's 90 proof. The first sip was pleasant & not overly bold, then finished nicely. To me, it's not as refined as an Eagle Rare 10, but a nice affordable sipper & one I may try again.

I’d buy it for sure

Very good bourbon for the 45$-55$ range. I’m not great on explaining flavors, to each their own with that. It’s definitely a bottle I’ll buy again in the future. I have a 4 star because it’s certainly not Blantons or Eagle Rare (5 star to me) , but it’s certainly better than Blade and Bow (2 star from me).

Unique

Popped this last night and was surprised at the flavor profile...not what I was anticipating. Became better as it breathed. I was getting spice, almost cinnamon notes. A pleasant sipper that I think will get better now that the bottle has been cracked.

The perfect gift for a whiskey lover

I bought it for my son-in-law and he opened it on Sunday before dinner. He thoroughly enjoyed it. It may be his new favorite.
