8/10: I began my Scotch journey as a The Macallan fan, then I discovered Compass Box by trying their $20 taster (Peat Monster, Story of the Spaniard, and Spice Tree). Now I'm a collector of everything Compass Box and very proud to say so. But... Rogues' Banquet is my least favorite of theirs so far (except for anything peaty; I don't do swamp-mouth yet.) Still gets an 8 for what it provides, but I'm more willing to buy Spaniard, Spice Tree, Hedonism, The Circle 1, and Oak Cross before this again. It is very smooth and has almost no throat-punch bite to it, but I can't quite discern all the flavors. Papaya? Yeah, maybe. Marshmallow? Not to me. But yes to ginger, apricot, and honey, and (to a lesser degree) nutty and chocolate. The nose is very inviting and I always take longer with it than normal, mostly because it doesn't give up its secrets and flavors too easily. I'm trying to figure it out. Finish is medium and pleasant. It's a fun mystery to engage in, I would never turn it down, and it's quite enjoyable, but doesn't oust others from my top ten. (Feb. 2021)
