In the early 1970s, Benriach broke convention in Speyside by returning to distilling batches in the old, 19th Century style, using peated barley malt to give its Whiskies a distinctly rich Highland profile. Since then, Benriach has focused on producing three types of Whisky: classic unpeated, Highland peated, and triple distilled. Using only the most eclectic selection of casks from around the world to test the limits of a Single Malt, their Whisky masters have been making some of the richest, most multi-layered Whiskies in Speyside.
The 2020 Smoky Twelve is a part of the new core range that explores those limits. Featuring peated and unpeated Single Malts that have been matured in Bourbon, Sherry, and Marsala Wine casks for at least 12 years before being expertly married into one rich, creamy smooth masterblend layered with ripened fruit, aromatic smoked sweetness, and warming Oak spice, lingering into a cocoa and orange smoked finish, all in perfect balance.
