Surprise, surprise, Coors (yes, that Coors) is now making Spirits as well, and inspiringly solid ones for a company that’s only been in the biz since 2021. Turns out, David Coors, a fifth-generation member of the Colorado beer dynasty has been flirting with the idea of making something more powerful, maybe smoother than just a beer for several decades already, but was unfortunately shut down by his father Pete, convinced his family’s destiny begins and ends with beer. Eventually, the youngster got his chance to prove himself, and boy oh boy, did he! In 2021, he released the spectacular Whiskey offering Five Trail, and that was only the beginning.
The newest release from Coors Whiskey Co., a subsidiary of Molson Coors, is the spectacular Barmen 1873 Bourbon Whiskey that was inspired by the founder’s great, great grandfather, A. Coors, proudly displaying his birthplace and the year he started his legacy. This had to be a Spirit, worthy to be named after a legend - and it is. This Bourbon is a blend of two straight Bourbons with unspecified mashbills, but it’s pretty safe to say everything in the bottle was aged for a minimum of 4 years. The bold, smooth, and sweet Spirit is bottled at 92 proof and is best enjoyed neat in a glass.
