Kentucky Owl Dry State is the biggest, boldest, and best they’ve produced yet… and that’s really saying something.

The original Kentucky Owl Whiskey was made by Charles Mortimer Dedman in the late 1800s. After every drop of this “Wise Man’s Whiskey” in inventory was, ahem… "confiscated" by federal agents under mysterious circumstances at the start of Prohibition, the C.M. Dedman Distillery faded into history. But just a few years ago his great-great-grandson — Dixon Dedman — revived the brand, creating the Kentucky Owl Bourbons and Ryes as small batch, super-premium spirit blends.

Following last years enthusiastic reception of the Kentucky Owl "Confiscated" release, the good folks at Kentucky Owl Distillery have assembled another EXTREMELY limited edition in a similar vein to mark the 100th anniversary of Prohibition — which came into force in 1920 — transforming the US into a "Dry State."

We hae to admit that we love the cheeky humor of marking that anniversary with a new premium Bourbon like this. And premium it is. They have pulled a handful of their best casks and assembled them into a sweet, caramel dram worthy of such an austere event. And it is bottle just below barrel-proof level at 57.5% ABV (115 proof) which makes us all warm and happy inside.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Rich Maple.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aromas are a wonderfully complex bouquet of spice cake, plantain, apple, and toffee with a hint of elderflower.

The flavors are true to Kentucky Owl but bigger and bolder with notes of s’mores, orange zest, and chewy caramel.

The finish is long and coating.
