When Highland Park Single Malt dreams of Spain.

Highland Park is the most northerly distillery in Scotland on the island of Orkney. Legend has it that it was founded by Whisky smuggler Magnus Eunson in the late 1700s and that he used his position as a church officer to conceal Whisky beneath the church pulpit. Don’t assume that “Highland Park” means their Whisky is made in the Highland style. In character, their spirit is closer to a midpoint between Lowland and Islay Single Malts. Perhaps the most famous Whiskey connoisseur of all time — journalist Michael Jackson — called Highland Park, “The greatest all-rounder in the world of Malt Whisky.”

Highland Park Twisted Tattoo is a sixteen year-old Single Malt with an interesting cask heritage. One third of the Spirit was aged in ex-Bourbon casks and the other two thirds in Spanish Rioja casks. This yields a fruit-forward, almost luscious dram. In fact, from the first sip you know that you are tasting a fine Single Malt, but you are reminded of Sangria in gentle aromas and flavor notes ringing in the background. It’s called “Twisted Tattoo” because the packaging design was done on collaboration with Colin Dale — a noted tattoo artist and designer.
