This fourteen-year-old Bourbon cask reserve version of Glenfiddich’s iconic Single Malt is a stellar dram with a brilliant mouth-feel.

The famous Glenfiddich Distillery was founded by Scotch Whisky legend William Grant in 1887 with used equipment acquired from the Cardhu Distillery. Remaining in the hands of the Grant family to this day, Glenfiddich is the biggest selling Single Malt Whisky worldwide and can be found in quality pubs from Indonesia and Beijing to Morocco and Los Angeles. Not only are they a top producer of premium Single Malt by volume, they are a much honored and loved go-to Speyside of choice for millions of loyal fans.

Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Bourbon Barrel Reserve has made several appearances in the Glenfiddich line-up, and each appearance is a welcome one. For a while it was available in the US only, but now demand in the EU and Asia has given this fine dram a wider audience.

As the name clearly states, this is the classic — iconic — Glenfiddich Speyside Single Malt aged a full fourteen years in ex-Bourbon casks. The Spirit is transferred to deeply-charred virgin American casks for finishing and then bottled at 43% ABV.

Smartass Corner:
The water used in Glenfiddich Single Malts come from the famous Robbie Dhu springs which bubbles up through the bedrock limestone nearby.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
We could sit and just sniff this dram all day with its notes of warm butter, English toffee, crisp biscuits, and dash of baking spices over a floating hint of marmalade.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate opens with a delicate and creamy mouth-feel with more of that English toffee flavor taking center stage with apples, pear, lemon zest, and spicy cinnamon doing lovely things as well.

Finish
The finish is very warm and very smooth.

Scotland is home to more than 20 million casks of maturing Whisky. That’s four for every person living there. Nuts!
Scotch Whisky is seldom aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation. In addition to that, Whisky is often matured or finished in various wine casks such as Sherry or Port.
Single malt stands for around 10% of the Scotch market. This is a malt containing only one grain, legally required to be barley in Scotland, and made at a single distillery.

A blended Scotch is a combination of different malts from different distilleries. It is typically made from grain Whisky but does include malt Whisky to give it a more complex body.
Can Scotch go bad? Technically, an unopened bottle of Scotch can last forever. Air is the only true evil to Whisky; once the liquid is oxidized it is no longer immortal. After opening, as long as you store your Whisky in a cool, dry place, it will last another 5 years.
Continuous mashing is firstly used by Glenfiddich in the Whisky market.
Whisky distilling goes way back to 1494 when the first recorded batch was made by a posse of monks who acquired about 60 gallons of barley and decided to turn it into "aqua vitae". They created the first 1,500 bottles of Scotch in History.
