A full-flavored and bold Irish Single Malt.
Glendalough was founded by “five friends from Wicklow and Dubli.” They began their journey creating Poitín — a traditional Irish distillate made in very small pot stills (sort of like small batch Irish Moonshine). From there it was a short and easy step into a variety of Irish Whiskies and Herbal-infused Gins as well. Everything is made by hand with a good measure of love.
Most Single Malts are aged either twelve or fourteen years unless their an independent bottler, so thirteen stands out. The “official” story is that “13 is Irelands luckies number.” But rugby great Brian O’Driscoll wore the number 13 when he played for the Ireland team, and he’s a shareholder in the company, so… you decide. Glendalough 13 is a classic Irish Single Malt, crafted is small-batch Holstein stills and aged a full thirteen years in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. And at a perfect 46% ABV, the honey and vanilla flavors veritably jump out of the bottle. Make no mistake, this stuff is delicious. All we’re saying is that — like the rugby player it’s modeled after — it’s not bashful on the flavor side.
Smartass corner:
Glendalough is Gaelic for “valley of two lakes.” And if you ever get to visit the small town of Glendalough, you will find just that — a beautiful east-Ireland hamlet with a small craft distillery and two lovely lakes nearby.
