All about Glen Keith distillery

Glen Keith was located near Strathisla Distillery, in the town of of Keith. This distillery is one of the first to be opened in the late-Victorian Whisky boom.

Glen Keith was opened in 1957. It orginally started with three stills, because the plan was to create a triple distilled Whisky. However the number jumped from three to five, and plans moved to double distillation. In 1999 the distillery was mothballed, and sold to Pernod Ricard in 2001.

In 2013 the distillery was revived and started production in larger volumes. Glen Keith received a generous development budget, due to the the 9 wooden and 6 steel washbacks, plus a huge mash tun and a spirit still, that were added to the equipments.

The first goal of Glen Keith was to produce a triple distilled Whisky. However, they changed their plans and moved forward with double distillation. Whisky from the distillery is mostly used for blends like Chivas Regal, Passport Scotch and 100 Pipers.

Pernod Ricard also used the distillery for innovative purposes. Nowadays, Glen Keith has 6 stills; 3 wash, and 3 spirit. The distillery used floor maltings and had a Saladin Box until 1976. After that they started to use industrial malting. The barley they used was often unpeated.
