Back in 1890, Francisco Alfredo Pellas announced to his family and friends that he was going to build a sugarcane plantation and Rum distillery on the side of an active volcano. After they all thought about it for a while and stopped laughing, they realized that this could make some sense in a “create awesome flavor in rich volcanic soil while risking your life” kind of way.

125 years later, Flor de Caña Rums produce the highest quality Central American Rums on the flanks of the San Cristobal volcano in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua. The company is led by the 5th generation of the Pellas family and their brand, Flor de Caña (meaning “flower of the cane”) has grown to become one of the most recognized Rums in the world. Dark amber.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Luxurious aromas of oak spice, orange peel and rich caramel with vanilla and baking spices joining in as the glass sits. Hints of tea leaves, coffee and tobacco.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
Sweet flavors of honey, butterscotch and toffee on the palate with dry oak spices as the spine of the Rum. Hints of rich tobacco and menthol and a touch of sweetness.

Long and firm finish with oak and warm spices, followed by dark chocolate flavors. You'll want more.

Very astringent aftertaste
I come from the country where its made from. The American version is okay (made in California) but if you ever get the chance to get the bottle imported from Nicaragua, do so, its just lovely.
Incredibly smooth with a subtle whiskey finish. Not sweet.
