All about Blackwood's

Blackwoods is the world’s first vintage gin. Made with botanicals harvested once a year from the Shetland Islands, each vintage is slightly different due to changes in the quality and quantities of the botancials.

From the Shetland Islands comes angelica, sea pink flowers and meadowsweet, with the last two giving the gin a slight greenish hue. The juniper, nutmeg, coriander, citrus peel, and more, are added.

The distillers would be foolish to try and create the exact same flavor profile year on year – instead they allow each year’s crop to dictate that particular vintage’s final flavor (which doesn’t vary wildly from the next).

All about Blackwood's distillery

Blackwood Distillery was founded in July 2002 in the Shetland Islands. Their goal was to become the first Scotch Whisky distillery in the Shetlands. The company fell into administration in May 2008. The facility was in the process of producing Blackwood's Liqueur, Gin and Vodka.

A new company, Catfirth Ltd, was established to continue the Whisky business, and took over the remaining stocks of Whisky. But once again plans fell through. The stocks of the Vodka and Gin brands that were left over were sold to a company called Blavod Extreme Spirits, and Blackwood's was never operational again.
