Holiday Destinations for Booze Lovers

With the summer months upon us, it’s time for the all important summer holiday. This is the glorious moment where the British leave their dreary homes in the UK and head off across the globe to spread some of their Britishness around.

But when you’re not complaining about how hot it is, or how pathetic a continental breakfast is in comparison to a full English, what else is there to do? Well, if you really love your alcohol, then there is plenty to get up to when you’re away.

Take a look at some of the opportunities below, and you’ll be booking a holiday in no time.

1. Sleep in a Tequila Barrel

Yes you did read that right. At the Matices Hotel de Barricas in Casa Cofradia in Mexico, you can sleep in a Tequila barrel in the middle of an agave field.

Now don’t be thinking that you’ll be squeezed into a tiny little cask, these barrels are huge. They are more like a house than anything, so you’ll be able to sleep soundly.

And the agave around you isn’t just for show either, it’s all part of a working farm. This is the perfect destination if you really want to get up close and personal with everyone’s favourite Mexican spirit.

2. Stay at a Distillery

What better way to spend your time off than at a distillery? Ardbeg, on the Isle of Islay, is the ideal place to spend a few days.

Not only do you have access to the other seven distilleries on the island, but you can immerse yourself in the beauty of the Scottish surroundings, and learn more about what goes into making such a wonderful dram.

If it’s further afield that you’re looking for then head for the Distillery Inn, Carbondale, Colorado. This place is incredible. It is set in the stunning Rocky Mountains and offers you the chance to get to know a working American distillery in style.

This #traveltuesday we invite you to check out our very own Distillery Inn in Carbondale! Be apart of the action at our distillery, learn about our products, and enjoy everything Carbondale has to offer right from the center of town. #marbledistilling #distilleryinn #luxurytravel #summerincarbondale #visitcarbondaleco

3. Learn more about Gin in Amsterdam

If you really want to know everything about Gin then head to its birthplace, Amsterdam. Here, it is known as Jenever and is slightly different than we know it in the UK. It is still based on juniper, but has a bit more complexity and a slightly maltier note.

Visit the De Drie Fleschjes tasting room to really get to know it and discover more about how it differs from Gin, and how it has influenced the creation of Gin as we know it today.

Amsterdam - De Drie Fleschjes (Three Little Bottles) with a sand-covered floor has been a gin tasting room since 1650. Locals rent the different sized barrels and fill them with their favorite liquor to drink whenever they wish. . . #netherlands #holland #amsterdam #dedriefleschjes #dutchgin #jenever #browncafe

And if you want to feel good about ordering a few Gins then hit up Mossel & Gin who boast more then ten different G&T variants on their drinks list, and serve their drinks in half and whole sizes so you can have a few cheeky halves and not beat yourself up about it afterwards.

4. Hamburg Summer Beer Festival and International Berlin Beer Festival

If you’re really into Beer (see also our tips for this summer), then Germany is the place to be. Head to Hamburg from July 27th until August 26th and you’ll be greeted with the Hamburg Summer Beer Festival.

And if that’s not enough for you, then head over to Berlin from August 3rd-5th, where they’ll be celebrating International Berlin Beer Festival.

You can see a good chunk of central Germany as you travel between them and enjoy some of the world’s best Beer either side of the journey!

5. Brew Dog’s Beer Hotel

If two Beer festivals aren’t enough for you, then hop on a flight to Columbus, Ohio, where you can stay at Brew Dog’s The DogHouse Hotel (it will open on August 27th). Here you will find everything you Beer filled dreams are made of, and a lot more you never though you needed to experience.

This includes a hot tub filled with IPA, a spa themed around Beer and a Beer tap at your bedside. There’s not really a lot more to say, and I think I can hear the hurried typing of Google searches before this paragraph is even finished.

The hotel is still sleeping...but DogTap isn’t! Come check out our phenomenal line up! 17 BrewDog beers for the unofficial CCBW closing party

Have you been to any of the locations we have suggested here? What did you think? Any others you’d recommend for the boozey traveller in all of us?
