Meet Milenio, 1800 Tequila's golden child.

The year 1800 is an important one in the history book of Tequila. This is when Tequila was first successfully aged in wood – and nothing was ever the same again. But even before that, in 1758, Jose Antonio Cuervo of Jalisco, Mexico, was the first one to obtain a license for Tequila making. Now, the Jose Cuervo brand stayed in family hands through marriages and inheritance until today when it's distributed by Proximo Spirits, owned by the Beckmann family. It just so happens that 1800 Tequila is part of the same family. Launched in 1975, 1800 Tequila is a premium brand of Tequila – you know, the kind that can (Or even should?) be enjoyed neat like the finest Whisky. Their drams have garnered the most prestigious international awards.

If you remember how ecstatic people were for the beginning of the new millennium, it makes sense that 1800 Tequila wanted to make something REALLY special and regal to mark the occasion. So, they conceived 1800 Milenio Tequila, an Extra Añejo Tequila that was first released in 2000. Honoring the 250 years of Tequila-making traditions in the family, it's made from 100% Blue Weber agave and it's double matured. Milenio first spends a few years in American oak and it's then finished real nicely in French oak Cognac barrels for 4 to 6 months. Families usually shouldn't have a favorite child, but if 1800 Tequila family had one, it would've probably been Milenio just because it represents the 1800 roots the best. Their words, not ours!
