When the boat moored in the Big Easy, it was turned into a floating distillery. After 50 days and 1712 miles, the 42 sorts of corn, collected during the trip, were slowly turned into Moonshine. Moonshine! The Spirit of rebellious moonrakers, the homebrew that indirectly brought about NASCAR. What could be more American than a Spirit that carries the essence of ten states? We rediscovered America and Southwind Moonshine is the legacy of the endeavor.
Take your senses on a boat trip down the Mississippi River. Rediscover America with your palate.
The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Southwind Moonshine and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.
We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.
Nose / Aroma / Smell
Aromas of cornbread, pears, and oatmeal are joined by salty and grassy notes.
Flavor / Taste / Palate
The nose translates into a corn-forward palate with lush spicy, grassy and grainy notes and a hint of apples, hay, and oatmeal.
The time spent sharing something new with family and friends on the patio with a fire in the chiminea.
Great conversations
Andee,

Elizabeth,
This is my third unaged whiskey, and was as good as the first one I've ever had (Unnamed friend's basement copper still more than 20 years ago), and way better than the second (McMenamins White Owl Whiskey).
Apple juice with grass cuttings and a spicy aftertaste. If nothing about that sounds good, don't get it.
I too will want to order again, but after some smoky, peaty whiskey, thank you.
Brian,
To date the best white lighting I have ever tried. The mash is amazing and complex for moonshine and there is zero bite! Good job Flaviar keep killing it!
Brandon,
Flavor was not for me.
Ryan,
If you don’t like unaged corn whiskey, OR if you haven’t tried it before, maybe you shouldn’t be reviewing this. However, if you do enjoy unaged corn whiskey, this is a pretty strong (no pun intended) offering. Although perfectly fine taken straight, the higher the usual (>40ish%) alcohol content can mask some of the flavor. When whiskey goes much above 40% is when I would advocate for adding ice or cold water to unmask the other notes (diluting from 40% I personally leave to the professionals, at least in terms of flavor notes). To me this is a smooth at the fore corn whiskey that quickly segues to spicy, but doesn’t quite become ‘harsh’...though I admit that I would probably disagree with myself about a decade ago. Maybe not for the uninitiated, or for those who prefer something uniformly smooth, but so far as I’m concerned that leaves me some extra bottles to order and enjoy in the future.
Tommy,
Southwest Moonshine is my kind of drink. Made from corn. Flavor box did not impress me. I hate anything with rye unless it is made well.
Tracey,
No burn but tastes terrible
Glenn,
Not very good. I made a poor decision.
Dean,
Didn't like the taste of it at all tasted like chewing on a piece of paper
Jason,
I thought it was awesome if you like strong corn liquor. It is definitely not for the girly man.
Alex,
I’ve made my own and tried white dog from a handful of bourbon distilleries throughout Kentucky... this is better than anything I’ve ever had. It must come down to the corn they use. It’s proofed lower than the hearts you can sip straight out of the still, but the flavor is complex and enticing. I need to get some better corn!!
Ronald,
I did not care for the flavour but my better half did but not the burn.
Jason,
This is what corn liquor is all about, not for the girly man.
Cade,
Had a strong stereotypical moonshine taste to it, nothing really special about it I've gotten almost the same exact thing from the resident distiller.
Jim,
Very enjoyable straight up chilled... But I enjoyed making my own spin with Moonshine Manhattans!
ROBERT,
I didn’t care for i1. I will NOT finish drinking it.
Denise,
It was excellent. I really enjoyed the taste.
Cade,
Was expecting some flare with this, but it tasted the same as the moonshine distilled in neighbors backyards
Bill,
Totally unlike anything I had expected. Reminded me of Cod Liver Oil. I’ll stay with the Bourbons.
D,
What a great representation of how to do curated corn whiskies well. Mild flavor, well balanced...great backstory.
PETER,
OK , ROUGH , WILD , LIVES UP TO ITS '' MOONSHINE'' NAME .
BUT NEVER MIND THE FLAVOR , THE STORY BEHIND THIS LIQUOR IS WONDERFUL , THE GUYS WHO MADE IT WORTH SUPPORTING .
BUY A BOTTLE TODAY....
Peter
Marcia,
This is the first moonshine I’ve tried that is sold retail. It was rough going down, but no bad side affects. I slept like a baby
Sean,
It was ok...interesting corn flavor...different than my usual brown liquors...a nice change.
Brian,
Wasn't really my thing. It had a very heavy corn flavor and wasn't all that smooth. Would not buy again.
Ivan,
Great flavor! Smooth finish, and does not linger!
Justin,
I remember moonshine from the Ozarks being much smoother. I expected this to be a close cousin. A little disappointed in this one. I’ll use it as a mixer.
Michael,
This isn’t terrible, but I didn’t think the taste or nose was very good either. The finish is decent though. Glad I tried it, but have had much better.
