3 Straight Ryes with a barrel of Chocolate Malted Porter thrown in there for good measure.
David Szlam and Ryan Meany were (are) a couple of high-end chefs working in Charleston, South Carolina. They knew flavor and were good ol' Southern men. So, naturally they decided to create their own line of Whiskies. The venture was founded in 2013 and named "Virgil Kaine" after a 19th-century train conductor. Their mad culinary skills in finding the superb flavor are quite useful when the objective is concocting perfection. The chef mates blended, tinkered, and experimented until they came up with explosive ideas that prove once again that amazing Spirits don’t need centuries of tradition and generations of secret recipes – what you need is guts and imagination.
What they've done with the limited-release Ribbon-Rail Rye is another testament to the above fact. They teamed up with the craft brewers from Revelry Brewing for this Blend of 3 Straight Rye Whiskeys, the first two being a 5YO Rye and a 4YO Double-Barreled Rye. It's with the third juice that the brewery collab enters the story. The final and most unique Rye was aged in Beer barrels ― Ribbon Rail Chocolate Malted Baltic Porter ones, to be exact. That leaves us with a classic sweet & spicy Rye profile that gets additional chocolate and cherry notes in there. This one is quite the sipper.
