Sazerac’s Buffalo Trace Distillery is a legend in itself. Not only is it home to some of the most highly prized Bourbon and Rye brands in the world — including Blanton’s, Van Winkle, Sazerac Rye, and two dozen more — but it consistently produces exceptionally high quality across its entire portfolio. In fact, Buffalo Trace is known as "the world’s most awarded distillery" with more than 500 wins.
Old Charter got its start in 1874 with Adam and Benjamin Chapeze in Bardstown, Kentucky. The brand changed hands a few times after Prohibition. Sazerac rescued them from the merger binge of the 1990s to give it a new home in 1999. The Old Charter Oak Series explores barrels made from different kinds of oak from around the world. The newest edition is Old Charter French Oak is comprised of Buffalo Trace’s famous "Mash Bill #1" — a high-corn mash with less than 10% rye — and aged for twelve full years in French oak. This new release arrived in June of 2019 and is bottled at a perfect 46% ABV.
