A real aged Whiskey with a blueberry pie palate and nose.

Leopold Bros. was founded by Todd and Scott Leopold in 1999. Todd has degrees in Malting and Brewing and Scott has his degrees in Economics and Industrial Engineering. These two brothers have since done the sensible thing and founded a distillery — first in Michigan, then moving everything back to their home state of Colorado. Their core lineup today is winning lots of awards and consists of Gins, Straight and Flavored Whiskies, Vodka, Aperitifs, an Absinthe Vert, and a few other tidbits.

Perhaps the best way to think of Leopold Bros. Rocky Mountain Blackberry Flavored Whiskey is as a bottled cocktail. But that’s not fair either. It is a combination of Leopold Bros. corn and rye Whiskey blended with the juice of Rocky Mountain blackberries. They are aged in charred American oak. The deep royal color is natural. No colorings or flavorings or sweeteners are added — premium Whiskey and juice, that’s it. And it’s bottled at 40% ABV.

Flavor Spiral TM
  • blueberry blueberry
  • oak oak
  • vanilla vanilla
  • blackberry blackberry
  • raisin raisin
  • toffee toffee
  • butter butter
  • spicy spicy
  • pie pie
Appearance / Color
Royal Purple

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is bright with blackberry, oak, vanilla, and raisins.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The flavor profile is not as sweet as you would guess, but sips as a fruit-forward Whiskey with blueberry cobbler, butter, toffee, and baking spice notes.

Finish
The finish is medium length with a lingering note of fresh-baked blueberry pie.

This was INCREDIBLE! It’s almost like an extremely strong Blackberry Meade. You can taste the whiskey but very subtle. I drank it straight on the rocks and the bottle was gone within a week. Highly recommend this One!

Made Whiskey Sours with this, excellent smooth blackberry flavor and well balanced with the whiskey. Very popular with my guests. Will be purchasing another bottle.

Not cloyingly sweet, but much stronger blackberry taste and weaker "whiskey" taste than I had expected. Even blackberry "moonshine" that I've had isn't as berry-forward as this. Overall not bad, but not what I had expected; probably should have looked at the flavor spiral before I ordered it, but I'm sure I'll find a purpose for it somewhere

Probably better as a cocktail ingredient or for cooking than drinking straight, with a mixer, or basing a cocktail on unless you like really sweet drinks.

Might have been less surprising if it had been labeled as a liqueur instead of as a whiskey.
