In the Brooklyn Navy Yard, on the waterfront that was once known as the distillery district, there’s a proud red-brick building that houses the first distillery in New York City since the Prohibition. And even if it’s a mere decade old, it’s actually the oldest distillery in Big Apple. They mash, ferment, distill, and bottle right there in that building, using New York grains. Practically the only thing that's imported are the Scottish copper-pot stills. In the short time that they've been operational they were named Distillery of the Year by the American Distilling Institute and have won several awards, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition included. Kings County Blender's Reserve 7 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey is a super limited release with only 269 bottles produced. Blending together different sizes of barrels, this particular offering is drawn from just 5 barrels, including the last 5-gallon Bourbon barrel they have, which makes this blend irreplicable. Plus, there are some double-digit Kentucky Whiskeys in there that are almost impossible to find. Greeting with oak, ripe vine fruits, leather, and malted vanilla, expect plenty of flavors of dried berry, chocolate, and winter spice. Add a drop of water and let caramel and browned oak sugars delight your taste buds even more. This is a super thoughtful blend that showcases the complex relationship between cask size, age, and flavor profile.
