A Whiskey worth the climb.

Bryan Nolt was not afraid to set his sights high when he started Breckenrigde distillery back in 2007. Set in a small mountain town 9,600 feet above sea level, Breckenridge is the world’s highest distillery in production. While the logistics of setting up a distillery in this location may have been challenging, the reasons for doing so are quite simple. Half a bottle of any Spirit is about 50% water so Bryan wanted his distillery to be as close as possible to the purest natural water source he could find. Today, with multiple award-winning Bourbons on the mantelpiece, Bryan’s dedication and focus have been fostered throughout the whole distillery team.

One such release is the Breckenridge Port Cask. This expression gives the award-winning Breckenridge Blend a final bit of loving with six months in Tawny Port casks. Some may argue that a Whiskey that won The World Whiskies Awards Best American Blended in 2016 doesn’t need finishing but who can resist a flavor hit of raisins and Maple Syrup in a top-quality Bourbon. The established high rye content of the Breckenridge Blend balances out gracefully against the darker sweetness found in the Port. This is a twist on a must-drink Bourbon that will keep you coming back for more.

Like a whiskey wanted to be a port

The taste of raisins is strong in this one. The taste lingered more on the front of my tongue than most whiskeys. I didn't find it quite as interesting as my hubs did but still liked it a lot. It's an easy-drinking weekday whiskey.

Port Cask Finish

Nose is maple syrup and raisin. Taste is raisin and butterscotch with some syrup and fruit. Finish is long and smooth with some port. A nice, smooth, and flavorful finish.

Should be 2.5 stars

Not sure what to make of this one. Tons of spice and it kind of clashes with the other, subtler flavors like the raisin. Other whiskeys have been able to blend them seamlessly but somehow this doesn't work as well.

Pretty good, totally different...

Pretty good, totally different than the PX finished version. Very spicy, nice rye bite. Reminds me of Angels Envy.
