The perfect antidote to the winter blues.
The Ballyvolane House Spirits Company, a charming little business in the Irish countryside, translates into "the place of the leaping heifers" in Gaelic. That paints quite a moo-ving picture, doesn’t it? A former dairy farm took on a new lease of life in April 2015 when two school friends, Justin Green and Antony Jackson, repurposed the place into a distillery. But, you must be wondering — who is the third mysterious entity amongst this cast of characters? Whose revenge are we tasting here? That would be a local legend known as Big Bertha, a prolific cow with an impressive 39 calves to her name. She is immortalized in the Guinness Book of Records, but it looks like that was not enough for the legendary lady — she now returns from the great beyond in Spirit(s), embodying a very un-revengeful trio: her joy, service, and selflessness.
You reeeeeally don’t have to stoically brave that winter chill. You know why? Because a solution to your shivers lies right in front of you. Sloe Bertha was made to rekindle your flame and put the spring back in your step. It features a blend of wild and cultivated sloes (blackthorns) plucked from hedgerows surrounding Ballyvolane House and steeped in the delightful Bertha's Revenge Gin for several months. To sweeten the deal, they also added a touch of sugar syrup. Savor it as a snuggly after-dinner drink, or try it out in a Hedgerow Martini for an added kick.
