A simply fabulous Texas-style Peated Single Malt with a rich and full-flavored everything.

You just have to love the charming, independent, and rebellious spirit of Texas. Balcones Distilling is based in Waco — just about half way between Dallas and Austin. Texas is a big state, and they like everything big… big steaks, big trucks, big hats, and big flavors. Balcones is still a small distillery (thank goodness!), but it is filled with big ideas. They hand-make a range of Whiskies, Rums, and mysterious fiddly Spirits — all of which are unabashedly crafted with the big flavors they love. These Spirits are top notch, and they have the awards to prove it.

Balcones Peated Texas Single Malt was first released in 2018 as "Balcones 1," and that number is still emblazoned on the label today. Since there are no peat bogs in Texas, they import Golden Promise barley from Scotland that has been malted and gently dried over peat. Then they run it through their Scottish copper-pot still. It’s aged for three years and delivered at a powerful 62.9% ABV. This flavorful annual release has sold out each year since its launch.

Warm garnet

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The smoke-effect of the peat is gentle and elegant with earthy aromas of incense, charred cedar, toasted oak, and Teriyaki BBQ with a ginger cookie tingle.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The flavor profile is lifted with a soft smokiness throughout supporting rich, sweet notes of baking spices, roasted chilis, sultanas, Nutella, espresso, cherry compote, and smoked meats.

Finish
The finish is long and mouth-watering.

First two drams already bringing the drama: Fabulous, unique, Texas-meets-Scotland whisk(e)y, easy on the peat (think Highland not Islay) but quite complex, hot, viscous, ends with an amazing grape note. Loving it.
