A surprising Texas Single Malt with a softer, fruit-forward flavor profile.

You just have to love the charming, independent, and rebellious spirit of Texas. Balcones Distilling is based in Waco — just about half way between Dallas and Austin. Texas is a big state, and they like everything big… big steaks, big trucks, big hats, and big flavors. Balcones is still a small distillery (thank goodness!), but it is filled with big ideas. They hand-make a range of Whiskies, Rums, and mysterious fiddly Spirits, all of which are unabashedly crafted with the big flavors they love. These Spirits are top notch, and they have the awards to prove it.

Balcone LOVES to experiment. And they have been tinkering with Single Malt Whisky for a while — yes, we said Texas Single Malt.

Well, in addition to the Balcones 1 Single Malt in their core range, they have Balcones Mirador as an annual release. It starts a blend of their same pot-stilled Single Malt mash. But it’s aged a little longer in second-fill casks (from two to five years) and bottled a tad bit stronger (54.8% ABV), yielding a smoother flavor profile without losing a step of flavor.

Appearance / Color
Warm Amber

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is fruit-forward with Anjou pear, apple cider, honeysuckle, hay, and leather.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The Spirit is soft on the tongue with fresh herbal notes over apple cobbler, anise, fennel, lemon curd, and soft baking spices.

Finish
The finish is medium length with lingering notes of citrus and mixed woods.
